Noah and Daren weigh in on the pros and cons of the emotional look at the spiral of mental illness portrayed in “Joker”.
While it is a compelling and uncomfortable story to watch, it’s devoid of the mythic lore which should connect it more closely to Batman’s rogue’s gallery, and the domain of Gotham City.
That separation of Batman from Joker, and divorcing Joker the history of the comics’ Joker and his more active agency in his own villainy, and instead showcasing the mental disintegration of a regular guy who ends up cracking and calling himself Joker, pulls it entirely out of the DC Universe built around Batman.
